I also sewed the shoulder straps. They have a core of ‘fun foam’ I bought at the craft store. I had to hand crank my machine because the motor didn’t have enough power for such things. Eventually I stripped the nylon gear (yes, they made a key component, a gear, out of nylon).
The front pocket was difficult to sew because it had to be done inside-out-ish-ly. 
My work would be easier to replicate if I bothered to plan on paper. I mostly just wing-it. This is now my pack for electronics, when I am traveling (TSA people love to see me take a minute or two to unpack this).
